However, she noted that sometimes immigrants do not receive these rights.
“At the moment, what we do is that we collect all the detained people and receive the information and want an interview with those detained people,” Arguta said.
Morales said that many immigrants that were taken in ice raids are not aware that they have any rights.
“You have the right to remain silent, not to talk to an icy officer, you have the right not to allow ice agents in your home or in your business,” he said.
He added that when 10 or 15 armed ice agents appear at the front door, many people are intimidated and frightened.
The White House Border Tsar Tom Homan has repeatedly stated that ice operations focus on transition after immigrants who have been wanted killers and gang members with criminal records, but Morales insisted that many people who were lifted in sweeping, They are not criminals.
“Many innocent people in many communities will be hurt by this,” he said. “This will erode trust communities in the government.”
He called on New Jersey’s legislators to adopt the proposed legislation called the Immigrant Trust Act, which will create the protection of the confidentiality of immigrant communities.
