The day before the shift. Whatever the outcome of this year’s election, we will see change from within our local communities to the national stage. Neighbors share how they feel ahead of Election Day and what they hope for in this time of change.
“Honestly, I’m ready for it to be over because it was such a close race at all levels,” said Northwest Tallahassee neighbor Cheryl Collier-Brown.
Right on the brink of change and emotions are running high.
“Like everyone else, I’m nervous about it,” said Meta Calder, chairwoman of the League of Women Voters’ Natural Resources and Clean Energy Committee. “The national election, which is really, it’s a bit scary.”
Calder said he believes that makes people more invested in this election cycle.
“I’m also intrigued by how many people I meet can’t wait to vote,” Calder said.
Now that early voting has ended in Leon County, data from the Supervisor of Elections shows that 58.65 percent of active voters have cast ballots.
Based on those numbers, they said they expect overall voter turnout to be in the 70s to close to 80 percent.
“We need to vote, we don’t need people to convince us, we just need to go deep into our souls and get out and vote,” Collier-Brown said.
During this time of change, Collier-Brown said she wants everyone who can to have a say.
“Don’t let being unsure who to vote for, what amendments to vote for, don’t let that encourage you to stay home,” Collier-Brown said.
Calder said it’s extremely important to remember the power of your voice right now.
“I hope people remember that this democracy we have here is a fragile thing,” Calder said. “It’s something we’re very proud of and it’s hard work and don’t throw it away
