Ilm continues growth plans, the airport adds hundreds of new parking spaces – Wect

Wilmington, NC (Wect) – Wilmington International Airport (ILM) has opened over 600 new parking spaces as part of its future growth plans.

ILM is currently developing its future growth plan. The plan begins in 2023, Jeff Burk, Director of ILM, says it will be completed by the end of 2026.

“We are really excited to add 650 new parking spaces to ILM, they are close to the terminal so you can walk. It was bad, we were short spaces and many people had to park on the draw, so it would be more comfortable, “Burk said.

The new parking spaces are located between the F LOT and the airport terminal. Burk says that although the shuttle works every 5 minutes, it can sometimes be uncomfortable for passengers.

The ultimate goal of the future growth plan is to make the trip an easy experience and help the airport adapt future growth.

Burk says 300 new parking spaces will open on April 10. By July 1, the new temporary curb front will open in the coming months the construction crews will work on the new parking garage, the new curb and a shed and the new airport entrance

“It was built in 1989. There are many problems with this. It is not comfortable and never designed to cope with the amount of traffic we have today, so I think it’s an absolutely critical improvement, but while we do it, we will also make it beautiful. “

Burk says the future growth plan will be completed by the end of 2026.

“A bear with us, at the end of the day when people will really be proud of what we have here in Wilmington.”
