Idaho’s legislators have a new option to kill Medicaid expansion – Boise State Public Radio

State legislators will receive another view of a bill that can cancel the program to expand Aidaho’s Medicaid if certain restrictions are not implemented.

“This legislation provides for precautions to the Idaho Medicaid program, which guarantees its stability, prioritizes resources for the needy population and promotion of justice and accountability,” said R-Coeur D’Alene, sponsor of the bill.

Redman introduced a similar measure last year, which includes work requirements, a three-year life limit for health benefits and a general recording limit of 50,000 or less.

As of December 31, 2024, nearly 90,000 people were enrolled in the expansion of Medicaid, according to state health officers.

The House 138 bill will also require the Ministry of Health and Welfare of Idaho to maintain incorrect payments below 5% and the federal government could not reduce its share of expenses below 90%.

The leader of minority at the D-Boise home said that these requirements essentially write the final expansion of Medicaid in Idaho.

“I think this for all practical purposes will mean canceling the expansion of Medicaid, because some of those refusals we have requested in the past and are not able to be provided in accordance with the Affordable Care Act,” Rubel said.

The Biden administration did not approve the state exemption to include the requirements for work and other conditions.

But Redman said he was confident that the Trump administration would write them down.

“The goal is that we would hit these precautions and this saves the state more money to keep [Medicaid expansion]he said.

If signed by law, the state will have until July 1, 2026 to meet these requirements or the program will close until October 1, 2026.

If the state is in accordance with the bill at any time after its passage, the expansion of Medicaid will be eliminated within 90 days.

Reporter Megan Egbert has joined the Republicans in the vote on the introduction of a bill into the Chamber’s Health and Welfare Committee on Tuesday, stating that he wants to ask further questions about the proposal.

The same committee introduced the House 58 bill last month, which will simply cancel the expansion of Medicaid.
