The House 1 joint memorial raises the volume in Boise. Idaho’s legislators want to be heard by the US Supreme Court.
Boise, Idaho – Petition in Idaho’s legislation, Joint Memorial 1 (HJM1) with respect to same -sex marriage adopted in the House of Idaho and moves to the Senate.
On the second day of the legislative session, January 7, Heather Scott (R) representative proposed a joint memorial to reject the Supreme Court’s decision for 2015 to legalize same -sex marriage.
She said that this undermined the powers of the state to decide how marriage should be determined. Idaho’s law already defines him as a man and a woman.
Last week, after dozens of people protested, the HJM1 passed through the Chamber of State Affairs Committee and was heard in the House on Monday, January 27th.
“What this resolution is doing is that it rejects Obergefell’s decision and then we ask them to restore the state body; it is the right of the state,” said Rep. Heather Scott.
HJM1 increases the volume in Boise. Idaho’s legislators want to be heard by the US Supreme Court.
“They can ignore it, but it can also be noted that we understand that there was an over -reassure in making decisions about something they do not have the power to do,” Scott said.
On January 26, the defenders of the rights of LBGTQ+ Plus wanted their votes, heard by the legislators at the foot of the steps of Capitol.
“Let the people on the fourth floor of this building know that we have nowhere,” said Rally Organizer, Cole Lancaster. “Our marriages do not affect anyone else and we just want to make sure that our voices are heard and reinforced.”
Lancaster said he was careful to put his marriage rights in the hands of state legislators if the Supreme Court had to take the petition seriously.
A similar message was voiced by the leader of minorities in the LLANA RUBEL (D) home.
“One of my sons is gay. He talks to me about this week. He was very upset. He is not a very political man, but he was concerned if he would ever be blocked to marry his long -term boyfriend and be able to live in This condition, ”Rubel said.
The debate followed the party lines.
“This is a bold thing at that time and a culture we live in, but it means that it is the right thing, whether it is crushed and discarded, whether the formulation is accurate or whether it is ignored,” Representative Clint Hosteller (R) said. “This is what we have to do as a body and a nation. We are a nation that is built on morality and laws based on documents that mean things.”
“This is just a letter,” said representative Todd Achilles (D). “This has no power of law. The courts will throw it into the bin. It really does nothing. It is a waste of time and money.”
While the representative Lance Clow (R) believes that the US Supreme Court exceeded its power to decide, it was difficult to decide on the petition.
“This is a problematic phrase there that we reject the US Supreme Court, which Idaho accepted as a supreme law on Earth, which says we must obey their decisions,” Clow said. “I really struggle with it and I just had to make sure I said it before I voted.”
However, Clow voted for the joint memorial and he was accepted by a majority vote.
HJM1 is now heading for the Senate.
