Heartbreak has broken through the local ice skating community after a tragic collision in the middle over the Potomak River in Washington, Colombia County, County
On Thursday night, ice rinks in North Virginia became places for mourning, while friends and families tried to deal with the devastating loss.
At SkateQuest in Reston, Virginia, the Fox 5 talks to an ice skating coach that lost her ex -wife in the horrific crash.
“When these children go to the development team, it’s a huge honor. Very few children in the country receive this opportunity,” said Ross Lancel, a Skatequest coach. “These are the best children in the country. They train with the best coaches and skaters. This is a great achievement. Then you fly home and that is happening -it’s absolutely detrimental.”
Lensel remembers his ex -wife as a phenomenal figure skater and an inspiring instructor. Video footage shows that he teaches young skaters during a past event.

The story:
American Airlines Flight 5342 collided with a military helicopter on Wednesday night, which led to catastrophic losses.
The flight had 60 passengers and four crew members, along with three helicopter soldiers.
The chief of DC Fire and EMS John Donelli confirmed on Thursday morning that there were no survivors.
Fairfax County Public Schools said three students and six parents were among those killed, including two FCPS staff.
The victims returned home from a figure skating event, held with the US Figure Skating Championship in Wichita, Kansas.

Local perspective:
For the Virginia skating community, the tragedy is unattainable. Many casualties have devoted their lives to sports and to build friendships throughout life.
The army of salvation arrived at SkateQuest to offer support to these sorrows.
“We were called to come here to provide spiritual support and to feed everyone affected. We did this from 2 hours to 6 hours.” said Captain Jouens Meroune, an army of salvation – Fairfax County.
Authorities have not yet released the names of the victims, ensuring that families were notified first.
The loss deeply influenced the slide throughout the country, including in Ashburn Ice House, where reports suggest that a coach and two young sisters are among the victims. However, the official confirmation is still in anticipation.
Alexis Winch, 10 -year -old, remembers her friends with kindness: “My favorite memory with her [one of the siblings] It was when we were sitting together looking at citizens. We just talked and had fun. “
Her father Jeff Winch added, “This is a train. Today she told my wife on the way to school, “I don’t know how to feel.” We told her, “Whatever you do, try and feel.”
Growing memorial
All day skaters, families and coaches gathered in Ashburn Ice House to grieve, leave flowers and give their respect.
The rink management said they would wait for an official list of the National Transport Safety Council before confirming the names of the lost in the crash.
