Nebraska coincided with his biggest return in nearly 30 seasons, as Husquers overcame a second half deficit to 20 points to stun the northwest, 68-64, Sunday afternoon at Wales-Ryan Arena.
Leaving 41-21, Husquers exceeds Wildcats 47-23 in the last 19:15, leading the good of a pair of free throws to BRIS Williams with 1:33. In the next possession, Juvan Gary received the theft before Braxton Mea’s basket in 51 seconds left a Nebraska ahead of 63-60. Williams sealed the victory by going 5 out of 6 of the line in the last 20 seconds, as Nebraska went to 14 out of 16 of the line in the second half.
Williams finished with 21 points, including 15 in the second half, while Juvan Gary scored 13 of his 17 points in the last 19 minutes of the race. Hurses also received a major performance from Mea from the bench, as the senior had 10 points along with the maximum season in both fights (seven) and blocked shots (two).
As a team Huskers (17-8, 7-8 Big Ten), they fired 61 percent in the last 20 minutes after shooting only 27 percent in the first half while holding the northwest (13-13, 4-11) to only 36 percent shooting and converting 16 turncars of Wildcats into 17 points.
The victory was NU’s fifth victory of the season, most of the 1998-99 and the fifth victory in the last six Nebraska competitions. The return of 20 points was the largest of NU after returning 20 points against USC in 2010 and coincided with the biggest return of NU from the 1997-97 season. Today’s victory was also the second right return to NU’s double figure on the road.
Northwestern opened the second half, scoring the first five points to extend its lead to 21, at 41-21 by 19:15, before the Hasles gathered. Gary’s 3-Indication launched a 9-2 Husker run to cut a deficit to 13 pm with a four-point Williams game.
Two straight baskets with Wildcat pushed the lead to 18 before the Hubes began to stop. Hubes forced five straight northwestern gaps, and Gary and Connor Essegian combined for 11 straight points, pulling the Hubes within 50-43 with just under 12 minutes. Angelo Siaravino’s basket stopped running, but Esisgia’s 3-story helped NU start another 11-2 while the Hubes even pulled on a jumper at Gary 6:06 to the left.
Over 58-56, Meah Dunk and Free Throw have limited a three-point game to give Huskers 59-58-first the first lead in the afternoon. The northwest would regain a Martinelli Jumper’s lead with 3:02 left before the two fake Williams shots with 1:31, let it give a Nebraska lead for good.
In the first half, the hubs went to a bad start and allowed the northwest to take control early. Wildcats scored the first seven points and never embarked on the construction of a half-time lead by 36-21. Nebraska held the northwest to 37 percent firing in the start of 20 minutes, but allowed 14 offensive fights, which led to 12 points for a second chance for the hosts.
Nebraska withdrew within 14-7 after Williams Jumper, but playing four points on Tai Berry 26 seconds later pressed Wildcat’s lead to double digits, as Barry had 13 points from the first half. Hursesrs pulled within 20-11 after a pair of stations on Gary free in brand 10:27, but Wildcats escaped seven straight points closed by Martinelli’s basket to push the lead to 17 and force Husker. Nebraska, which fired only 27.3 percent in the first half, eventually received a deficit of up to 15 during the break.
Berry and Martinelli had 23 points in number for Wildcats in the loss, including six 3-bers of Berry
