After the federal government canceled a lease agreement in Topeka, the owner of the empty office space says it is an example of government waste that President Donald Trump’s administration is trying to remove.

“It was just a huge government loss,” said Jim Klausman, who owns the building, which houses the regional service of the Topeceka of the US Agency for Risk Management by the Ministry of Agriculture.

The Risk Management Agency manages the Federal Corporation for crop insurance. None of his employees lose his job when the office closed, employees said.

“The Physical Office of the Risk Management Agency in Topeka, Kansas, was closed on February 1, 2025,” a USDA spokesman said in a statement to the capital’s journal. “The closure has been under the process of several months. All employees are still hired at the agency and we do not expect any impact on agriculture in Kansas. The crop insurance policies continue to be sold and served through approved insurance suppliers.”

News about leasing cancellation come from the Ministry of Government Efficiency. Guided by Trump Elon Musk, Dog began publishing an online list of canceled contracts and leasing contracts. One of the listed real estate actions is for the office of the Topeka Risk Management Agency.

The Doge website lists this office as a 5560 square feet with an annual lease price of about $ 122,000. He claims a total savings of nearly $ 1 million. The Doge website states that the agency has closed the office.

The USD maintained a Topeka regional office of the Risk Management Agency for 2641 SW Wanamaker Road, Suite 201. This space is in the same building as the University of Kansas Health System Emergency, which records shows that it is owned by Klausman, a local developer.

“They had about 5500 square meters in the last 10 years or more,” Klausman told Capital-Journal. “And since the pandemic have had no one in the office in the last three years. No person. So I think this is a clear example of government waste that is happening.”

“They wanted to renew the lease contract two years ago for an additional 10 years and I told them why?” He added. “Why do you want to renew this leasing when there is no one in your office? There was no one. No one was in this office.

“So, I had to tell them that they just made a two -year leasing because I decided it was a huge loss of money.”
