HUDDLE UP MOMS LAUNCH CAMPAIGN for First Bank for Southwestern Virginia – WDBJ

Roanoke, Washington (WDBJ) – In a region where many families are fighting poverty of diapers, Huddle Up Moms takes a step to deal with this urgent question by launching Project Huddle aimed at creating the first and only certified Bank of diapers to the south Virginia.

When you shop for diapers, the price can be more than many families can afford. According to the national diaper network, diapers cost families up to $ 100 a month per child. In response, Huddle Up Moms, a non -profit organization based on Roanoke, launches its campaign to distribute diapers and Lifeline Endeavor (Project Huddle) campaign to set up the first diary bank of southwestern Virginia.

“So many mothers asked guys, do you give out diapers? Do you give wipes? And we quickly realized that there was no other program; There is no other group here in Roanoke or the surrounding area that provides diapers. We also quickly learned that there is no federal or state funding to provide diapers for low -income families, “said Moms Moms Support Director, Hanna Gudman.

After the launch of their maintenance store in 2022, Hum provides free diapers, formula and baby supplies to needy families. Currently, the organization is supporting over 125 mothers every month, but demand is far beyond their capacity. In southwestern Virginia, more than one -third of the families face the poverty of diapers, which can have serious consequences for both children and parents.

“If you are a child, you do not have enough diapers, they cannot go to kindergartens. Children’s hours will not take them unless you get them with diapers. On average, those families who have a shortage of diapers are struggling to find income to get diapers lose about 1 to 2 days of work. So it’s just snowballs, ”Goodman said.

In order to fight this crisis, HUM aims to raise $ 120,000 through Project Huddle, the funds will be used to create the bank for diapers and help maintain their supplies for years to come.

“We will be able to reach not only Roanok’s mothers in the Roanok Valley, but also the counties around. There is no bank for diapers to the west of us until you reach Knoxville. There is no diaper for north and east of us until you reach Richmond and Harrisonburg. So, our goal is to overcome this gap to those other diapers banks and to reach every mother, every family, every child, “Goodman said.

Huddle Up Moms plans to open its diaper bank in April and they call on the support community to turn this vital resource into reality.
