Angelo Williams remembers when he was first invited to join an organization concentrated around black men. Golf’s quarrel, Fred Allen, made the request.
“” I didn’t know about the organization before his invitation, “Williams said, now president of 100 black men from the coastal North Carolina since January 2024.” It was some exceptional club. So, then I did not pursue membership. “
However, this time, after discussing with Alan and doing some research, Williams found that active mentoring was a key component of the organization’s mission.
This component resonated as it was in line with what Williams did during the greater part of his life to adults.
What are the 100 black men on the coastal NC?
The 100 black men from the coastal NCs are part of the 100 black men in America. The international organization is recognized as a leading mentoring group, led by African American in the United States. It began in 1963 and grew to over 100 heads serving over 125,000 young people.
The four leading stairs are mentoring, education, economic empowerment and health and well -being.
The local chapter started in 2007. The Non -Profit organization has 39 members serving 200 young people in the cities of New Hanover, Brunswick and Pennder.
Williams is the executive director of the head and is responsible for providing all activities and programs being implemented in accordance with the mission and vision of the organization.
“I felt when I joined this organization, I had the opportunity to help and do more than I could do myself,” Williams said.
How does the organization help young people?
100 black men from the coastal NCs have a program at school strictly focused on black and brown men. The programs at the school are in six schools-Wiliston Middle School, DC Preparatory Academy, Gregory International School, Town Creek Secondary School, West Pender high school and Hoggard High School.
The motors of the organization that serve as the basis of the program at the school are “what they see is what they will be” and “real men who give real time”.
The organization has mentors from all walks of life who are with students a week, discussing the basic things that will help them achieve their goals.
The curriculum supports students with character, financial literacy, potential career and appreciation for their rich and diverse heritage.
The non -profit organization also has a program called Success Academy, which includes both men and women eighth to grade 12. This inclusive program focuses on helping young people to navigate in teenage years and facilitate life after graduating from high school. The group teaches financial literacy, students are encouraged to open a savings account at each bank and all savings that accumulate during the program period will be compared to $ 100.
The organization also makes cultural enrichment by exhibiting museum mentors and theatrical performances locally and within a day driving from Wilmington. They are also involved in some fun activities such as horseback riding, bowling, vision of movies and more.
“Through these programs and others, we live on our two bikes, attending our mentors and give our time, expertise and experience, so that as they see success in us, they will dream of success for themselves,” Williams said.

The organization has two basic annual funds for funding, a scholarship breakfast and a golf tournament. The funds from the breakfast for scholarships go to mentors’ scholarships who graduate from the elderly and enroll in after high school.
