How much snow fell in Florida this week? More than Anchorage or New York. Here are the numbers – Sarasota Herald -Tribune

We are all snow birds now. At least the residents of Florida to the north are the same after a strange winter storm brought record snow in Panhandell and much of North Florida this week.

And these were long -standing records. The previous record for snow in the state – 4 inches – was set in Milton in 1954. On Tuesday, January 21, Milton, the city of Jay and an area in the neighboring Ezkbia district have seen 10 inches of snowfall according to the latest data from the National Meteorological Service.

Pensacola broke an even older record, with its 7½ inches broke the old record of 3, set in 1895. Pensacola International Airport reported even more, by 8.9 inches.

The capital received its own winter side of wonders, with more than 2 inches, reported by trained observers in the Talahasi area southeast of Elba. Even in Jacksonville there was a whirlwind for the first time since 1989.

Is it snowing in Orlando? Miami?

I’m sorry for people who hope to see snow covering Cinderella’s Castle or Miami Beach. The conditions were not appropriate.

At what temperature it snow?

The snow is formed when the atmospheric temperature is equal or below zero (32 degrees or 0 Celsius for the rest of the world). The ground should not be frozen to see how it is snowing, but it must be below 41 degrees or so that the snow can accumulate and not melt immediately.

However, the snow requires moisture, so even the coldest days will not bring snow unless there is rainfall.
