Baton Rouge, La. (First Louisiana) – Louisiana is in the top 10 states with the highest weekly food costs, according to a new study analyzing food inflation over the last decade.
The Pricelisto study focuses on the average cost of food for income. The findings of the study show major changes in the cost of grocery in the United States, with average weekly grocery costs increasing from $ 198.60 in 2014 to $ 264.60 in 2024 – equal to a 33% increase.
Hawaii, Alaska, California, Nevada and Mississippi were identified as the first five states with the highest food costs in a 10-year comparison.
Louisiana is ranked # 10 in the study with a share of income spent on groceries, which ran from 20.55% to 28.04% in the last decade, while the average income of the household decreased by 2.15%, from 53 230 to 52 087 dollars.
The weekly grocery costs in Louisiana were $ 283 in 2024, compared to $ 212 in 2014. Annual food costs were $ 14,602.8 last year.
