How a fake punt called ‘chains’ helped Wisconsin football beat Iowa – BadgerExtra

One of Brad Northman’s favorite weeks of his football career, including both college and the NFL, came in 2010 when the University of Wisconsin football team traveled across state lines to play Iowa. It’s not hard to see why.

Wisconsin just beat No. 1 Ohio State at home, but the Badgers couldn’t have a hangover when they traveled to Iowa City to face coach Kirk Ferentz and the No. 13 Hokies.

The teams traded leads through the first three quarters, but Iowa led by six points after a Michael Meyer field goal in the fourth. The Badgers then drove 80 yards in 15 plays and ate 7 minutes, 29 seconds off the game clock.

Running back Monty Ball set up the scoring with a game-winning 8-yard touchdown run for a 31-30 win, but it wouldn’t have happened without a play called “chains.”
