In our reporting for homeless Nevada over the past year, we brought you stories to participants in the Reno Works program.
This is one of the programs of the city of Renault, designed to help people with unemployment and homelessness.
Renault works is a 12-week program where participants are paid for work and learning important skills that can become employment. They also learn life skills and money management.
After all, many of them leave not only with work but also a stable home.
According to the city’s annual report on homelessness, the Reno Works has 80% success rate with 15 graduates last year.
Here is a story produced by Renault:

Reni (R): “I would just say, continue.
Jamie (J): “Reno Works is a joint partnership with the volunteers of America and the city of Renault. And he was one of the participants who had applied for the program. He went through some medical problems at that time and remained in the shelter. So there was a big solution. He remained so much.
And he couldn’t afford it. So we made it easier for a conversation with Marvel Way and, you know, get him something he can afford. And he finished, I believe he qualifies for 40% unit or 30% unit. And then he still made some decision whether he would be able to work and, you know, to maintain housing.
And I had some instrumental: “Hey, you know, you have to take this job, if you have a medical, you know, treating your own place where you are not surrounded.” And it made sense where he was in the hospital and he didn’t know if he would have a bed when he returned. So, I’m like, Reni, we can’t continue to do this and we have to get into homes. “
R: “It was a lot of journey. And I think if someone who sees me now and that they are like, you were there last year and now you are here.
Jesse: “Partnership with Reno Works and Raley’s is incredible. It gives the community a chance to bring these unhappy people back to their feet and bring their lives back together. Reni builds relationships and this is big here at Raley’s – especially with our customers and team members. After building a relationship, you build everything together.”
R: “You get the best – the ultimate was to get me here and get me out of the shelter. So I could thrive, you know. I have obviously I do a lot of raley here, and I work a lot and people see it. For people who think to apply for ren work – go for it, because it will be honestly, it will.
J: “Reni was one of the best participants. He always appeared with a smile on his face, yet he was going through, he was still supporting the program to this day, coming to graduation. He was incredible.”
