Homeless Nevada: Housing Programs – KTVN

Homeless Nevada: Housing Programs – KTVN

As we cover the homeless Nevada, we often focus on the lack of low-income homes and how it makes it even more difficult for people to go into homes after they become homeless.

This week we are broadcasting a series of stories from the city of Renault – today we are looking at housing programs.

The annual City of Renault on homelessness considers programs such as housing and neighborhood development that help emergency rental and deposit. This is for people who are about to become homeless to help them stay in their homes.

There is also a senior assistance program for additional help. It was approved at the legislative session in 2023 and provides the elderly with up to six months of assistance if they pay more than 30% of their rental income.

In the first year, 1084 adults in Renault, Sparks and Washo County received money to help with rent.

The Renault Housing Authority supports the rapid reconstruction of the pilot program, which includes several steps to enter temporary and permanent housing – and essentially on the feet again.

This story has been produced by Renault:

Monica (M): “Hi, I am Monica Kirk. I am the director of the housing construction and the development of the neighborhood for the city of Renault. The fast pilot program for recovery is a program that the city of Renault began in coordination with the volunteers of America and Renault’s residential administration.”

Devin (D): “Programs such as the” fast re -pilot program “are important to the volunteers of America because it enables us to catch people who are otherwise potentially falling between cracks in terms of services.”

Heidi (H): “The Renault Housing Authority assists nearly 15,000 residents of Washo County through its traditional housing programs. Still, we know that there are many more who need help. The Renault Housing Authority supports the Renault Support Program for Fast Processing Program Two ways.

The first way is through a financial contribution to supporting half the salary of the Service Coordinator, which works directly with customers at Village on Sage. The second way we support the program is to guarantee that customers are on one of our HA waiting lists before being accommodated in a village of SAGE. “

M: “[The] The program is new and we have just started to accommodate people within the last month. We now have several people staying in the village of SAGE working with a service coordinator. “

H: “Partnerships like this enable RHA to help more families outside our traditional programs. And it is these innovative partnerships that create a step from temporary home in long -term permanent housing.”

D: “So specifically, this program works with persons who are fixed or low income – who cannot afford a conventional rent – and are entitled to a housing voucher, but they still have to take the time to wait for this voucher. So this allows us to support them in this mediation timeframe so that they can remain accommodated and have access to services.

I know specifically with this program, many of our people come directly from the street and have not had a rent for a very long time. Moreover, mothers had not paid a rent for more than a decade, so it was really exciting to come to the office with his money and just celebrate this new experience he had to have. “

Mike: “Hi, I’m Mike and, welcome to the village of the sage. Where – come on, let’s go and look. Oh, hello. is one of the more finances, Finish TVs.

What can I tell you? The door is open, the train is right there, you know, so if you like trains – great. And here all magic happens. You know here that happiness, where we come to get sick. And right here, you know, we can be ourselves.

I know it’s already a step up. It’s cold outside. It’s cold. And you don’t want to be homeless in the high desert. Guys, if you don’t have a room, you want to take a room. Think about the village of Sage. I know it doesn’t look like all this from the entrance, but you would never judge a book by its cover, would you? “

D: “The village on Sage Street is ideal for the quick return program because we are in a transitional setting. With the help of units of months to a month. So they have their own space where they can find and build their comfort, as well as build a community, As long as you have access to many supporting services.

H: “[The] The program service coordinator guarantees that customers receive the help they need as they pass from homelessness and in the village of SAGE, and then will ultimately help them – to overcome through our reception process. The program also helps customers to prepare for permanent home and the corrections they experience as they escape from homelessness and ultimately into a permanent home. “

M: “My hope for the future of this program is that we get people out of the street. They are in a safe, permanent home that can afford in the long run.”

H: “RHA hopes that customers assisted through the program can find relaxation from living on the street; and ultimately find a long -term, safe, permanent, accessible home.”

D: “On top of that there is what is in themselves, in the village on their own Sage Street, they also have access to community resources. These resources include a fitness room in the community, conference room, community salon, mail, computer room, On -site laundry and vending on the spot.

M: “Unit here in the village – they are $ 555. So in this case someone can afford $ 300, the program will fill $ 255 a month and that will keep them with each other until their permanent unit opens. This will be subsidized by the amount of money they make.

H: “RHA is always looking for opportunities to fill omissions in the housing landscape. This is a partnership like three community agencies gathered to do just that.”

D: “The volunteers of America are grateful that they have the opportunity to partner with the city’s city housing government in Renault and Renault to manage this pilot program and to provide additional homes for people who are fixed income and otherwise wait for their permanent dwelling. “

M: “The Community can support this program by donating the volunteers to America or make donations to the city of Renault. We had a donation from some of our local $ 20,000 housing champions. This will help to expand it a little. So. So.

Wednesday night in our broadcast at 19:00 we will look at the program of the city community. It helps people overcome obstacles such as drug use and mental illness that can prevent them from having a home or employment.
