Highway Safety Commission hosts news conference Wednesday to show how to stay safe on the roads this Halloween – WBRZ

BATON ROUGE – Should you wear a high-vis vest while playing, even if it clashes with your suit? The Louisiana Highway Safety Commission hosted a press conference focusing on road safety on Halloween night.

Speakers at the 10:30 a.m. media appearance discussed the importance of traffic, bicycle and pedestrian safety on Halloween night and will share statewide crash statistics from the past five years.

A few tips they shared were to have children wear bright, reflective clothing and be monitored at all times – even suggesting the use of a tracking device. It is also recommended to look both ways when crossing alleys and roads.

“Our most precious gifts in the community are the children and their families. Halloween is a spooky night. It’s made of fun and celebrations, but it can also be the stuff of nightmares,” said The Saftey Place Executive Director Crystal Pichon.

2une In’s Abigail Witham spoke with officials Wednesday morning before the press conference to talk about the basics of safety.
