Help for hundreds of homeless teens and young adults in the Las Vegas Valley – Fox 5 Las Vegas

Las Vegas, Nev. (FOX5) – The work is done to help hundreds of homeless teens and young adults in the Las Vegas Valley, as local authorities break down at the growing camps for homeless.

The ban on Clark County Homeless Camps came into force on February 1. People are warned to look for a bed in a shelter; If they refuse, they risk possible fines or prison.

The Youth Center of the Homeless Homeless in Shannon West is a decisive resource for older teens and young adults to escape from homelessness. The Center accepts people up to 24 years.

According to the number of homeless homeless in the county, there are about 508 people between the ages of 18 to 24 years, who are homeless every night.

“Having an open bed is part of the solution,” says Joan Lima, a South Nevada help manager. “If we did not exist, there would be absolutely young adults in the valley who would become unlawful again,” Lima said.

How do teens and young people graduate homeless? Lima explains many scenarios: sometimes teenagers treat CCSD advisers. Others have a dropping out of their families and are “surfing the sofa”. Other young adults have recently been released from prison.

Some teens are looking for shelter in tunnels or different bearings.

FOX5 has toured the center: there are dormitory -like rooms, dining rooms and multifunctional rooms with music and games and TVs. Other amenities include computer workstations and washing rooms.

The resident’s staff is on each floor to help young people with different needs.

Every teenager or young adult goes to school or work. Young adults are related to programs or hours of training of workforce and work.

Residents learn life skills, from washing to payment of bills.

There are options for “maintaining housing” for young adults to have their own studio with a kitchenette and a bathroom, paying their own rent and moving on to an independent life.

“Every young man is given a plan to be released someday-to associate them with education, to connect them to employment, to connect them to income, so that they can be self-sufficient and independent,” Lima said.
