Hawks and Solis win Player of the Week – KGNS

LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) – The high-flying Zapata Hawks have been nothing short of spectacular this season, and one of the key pieces to that success has been Junior Jay Solis.

Last week, Solis continued to add to his impressive campaign this year with 100 receiving yards and a touchdown through the air to go with it.

It wasn’t just his contributions that caught our attention, but so did his work on special teams. Solis added a score on a punt return and another on a punt return.

All of which earned him our latest Player of the Week honors.

Zapata head coach David Porras knew what kind of athlete they were getting with Solis even before the season started.

“We knew we were going to have a very special player, obviously extremely fast and very talented Porras said. He’s almost at 1,000 yards receiving on the year, so like I said, a very special player.”

Meanwhile, the youngster emphasizes that success is achieved in a team.

“I feel good, man, I feel blessed, of course, for all the opportunities that I’ve been given. I want to thank my teammates and the coaches, Solis said, I couldn’t have done this without them and I just have to be humble about it and move forward.”

Congratulations to Solis and the Hawks for winning the award, and tune in every Thursday and Friday to see who will win our next Player of the Week award.
