Harold Wesley Smith (Wilmington Funeral & Cremation)

Wilmington – Harold Wesley Smith Miro died in the center of LifeCare on the lower nose fear on February 1, 2025.

Born August 6, 1948, the oldest of the three children of Harold and Shirley, Wes grew up in Washington, North Carolina, along with his younger sister and brother Joan and Mark; All of whom were part of a loving and violent expanded family … aunts, uncles and cousins. Undoubtedly, this environment has helped to become Wes into a creative, adventurous and welcoming person we all loved.

Wes proudly serves his country at the US Navy until it is diagnosed with Hodgkin’s disease, which led to an early honorary discharge. The challenge for sure, but one that he overcame and never looked back. Working on his grandfather’s tobacco farm as a teenager during the summer gave him a deep sense of responsibility and desire to learn and explore the possibilities of life. Even then, it is known that WES focuses on solutions, regardless of the circumstances, often repairs equipment and helps with construction projects, large and small. Much later, neighbors in Carrie and Wilmington often asked Lindsay, his loving wife: “If they can borrow Wes,” and he has confidence, he can solve their various problems with improving the home.

WES graduated from the Washington High School, won a bachelor’s degree in the University of Eastern Carolina University and Master’s Degree in Computer Science from North Carolina State University. His career lasted 31 years working for SAS in Carrie, NC as a program manager in the development of engineering and analysis.

Wes and Lindsay met for the first time as teenagers and then met again in 1986. They have been married for 37 years. They raised two sons, Hatcher Rosebrock from Santa Fe, NM and Harrison Smith by Apex, NC. Given Wes’ tendency for adventure, he was very active in the scout boys serving in many leadership roles, including an assistant -scoutmaster, where he was awarded Wood Badge in recognition of his special service. He and Lindsay were proud and avid supporters of the boys’ efforts, as the two achieved the rank of an eagle, the highest honor that a scout could receive. Wes was an ever -present practical dad, always bending over to help Lindsay and boys.

The road and mountain cycling have also become a strong focus for boys with WES right next to them in many long -distance walks and charity raising events. Wes’s talent as a guitarist and as a member of several bands, of course, led to the boys’ interest in music and guitars. If you peered into the WES garage, you will see something like a cross between Rei store, a sound warehouse and a scout campair boy.

Wes was the most proud of turning the yard on him and Lindsay into a remarkable display of flowers, shrubs, stone products and paths. He and Lindsay can always be found with shovels in his hand, along with lists of creative projects and ideas. They have always worked as a loving team, pursuing their gardening goals.

Wes was an unforgettable person with the inheritance of the service of others and a deep enthusiasm for life. He will be deeply missed, leaving behind his beloved family and friends.

He survived his mother Shirley Toller Smith of Washington, North Carolina; his wife Lindsay Smith; Two sons, Hatcher Rosebrock and his wife Joe Ann and two grandchildren, Barrett and Boden Rosebrock by Santa Fe, NM and Harrison Smith and his wife Kendra of Apex; Two brothers and sisters, Joan Smith Bols and her husband Randy, Advance, North Carolina; and Mark Smith and his fiancé Margaret Blandford of Washington, North Carolina; Two brothers, Samuel Hatcher and his wife Carroll of Matthew, North Carolina; And John Hatcher and his wife Pat of Wilmington; And a daughter -in -law, Laureau Mason and her husband John of Wilmington.

Wes was preceded by his father Harold Medford Smith, who died in 1990.

The Life Holiday Office will be at 14:00, Friday, February 7, 2025 in the Kenan Chapel, located in Landfall, 510 Arboretum Drive, Wilmington, NC 28405.

Instead of flowers, gifts in WES’s memory can be made to lower the nose fear or debboratively of America, which is a national non -profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of people living with the epidermolysis bullose (EB) through innovative research For treatment and cure.
