Happy birthday, Mr. President; General Washington turns 293 – patch

Happy birthday, Mr. President; General Washington turns 293 – patch

Upper Makefield – More than 100 people stopped at the rainy weather on Sunday to wish General George Washington “Happy Birthday” in the center of visitors in his namesake.

As the smartphones were rolling and looking at children with their eyes wide, Washington, dressed in their striking blue and gold uniforms, used a three -foot sword to break through their red, white and blue birthday cake provided by the Newtown core.

The audience cheered the general until he shared his 293th birthday with the public and thanked the young people for the numerous handmade birthday cards he received.

“It brings a tear to my eye to see so many people remember my birthday – I had so much,” said the general, depicted by John Godzi, as he was looking at the visitors’ audience.

“Thank you for taking the time of your day to celebrate with me and my soldiers,” said Washington, surrounded by members of his internal commander and Fife and the drum body of the park.

“This is one of those celebrations in the Washington Historical Park, which is incredible,” Godi said. “The crowd, the excitement, the music of Fife and the drum and just the enjoyment of everyone here. And the huge amount of birthday cards I received. It’s so wonderful to see patriotism. It’s a fantastic day. “

After cutting his cake, Washington invited everyone to join him for free tartlets donated by NJM Insurance Group.

The birthday on Sunday was organized and hosted by the historic Park Friends of Washington Crowd and emphasized a free day of life history and practical training activities in the park.

Avoiding rain drops and umbrellas, visitors spent the story filled with the story late morning and early afternoon, studying a pen for writing and making games with whirlwinds and spells, and participating in training. Visitors also learned about colonial cooking, rotation and blacksmithing.

“In such days, we are grateful for the number of people who appear,” said Park CEO Jennifer Martin. “We had more than 100 people here, enjoying the activities. We usually have 400 to 500 per event like this. But on a day that is rainy and gloomy that they have appeared so much is exciting. This event is especially special, as many of the events we do are usually for the older audience. But you see many children aged three, four, five and six, and it serves as an introduction to them in the park and what happened here. ”
