MADISON, Conn. — A Hammonasset gas station, a fixture in Madison for decades, closed its doors earlier this month, the owners announced on Facebook.
“It is with heavy hearts that we have to share some bittersweet news with you all today,” the owners wrote. “After more than 25 wonderful years serving our community, Hammonasset Service Station will be closing its doors for the last time. This decision was not easy and we wanted to take a moment to express our deep gratitude for your loyalty and support over the years.”
The station is located at 905 Boston Post Road in Madison, and the owners, the Burger and Pascal families, said the decision to close was based on several factors, such as “economic challenges, changes in the industry and the loss of both owners, Doug and John, in 2020.” “
“In the meantime, we would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for your unwavering support over the years,” the families wrote. “Without your trust and patronage, we could not serve the community we love for as long as we have. We hope you will continue to support other local businesses that serve our community with the same dedication and care as we strive to provide.”
CT Insider reports that the station has been in Madison for 100 years and received its first gas pumps in 1928.
“Although we may be closing our doors, the memories, friendships and community spirit we have fostered will live on in our hearts forever,” the owners wrote. “Thank you for being a part of this amazing journey with us.”
