In many areas, trick-or-treating is scheduled for Thursday, October 31, giving children across the state a chance to enjoy the spookiest Halloween night of the year. Hours vary from parish to parish, although most areas observe a two-hour window.
In addition to announcing trick-or-treating hours, local law enforcement agencies are stepping up patrols and providing safety tips to drivers and families alike.

Authorities across the state shared a few additional guidelines to make Halloween safe and enjoyable. Families are encouraged to trick or treat in well-lit neighborhoods, and drivers are asked to slow down and use caution. Most parishes also urge homeowners to provide factory-sealed, packaged candy and avoid handing out homemade treats to ensure maximum safety.
