As Halloween approaches, it’s important to keep safety in mind while enjoying the fun. Here are some tips to ensure a safe and spooky night:
- Eat healthy food: Start the night off right by eating a healthy meal before the party or treat.
- Stay visible: Add reflective tape to costumes and carry a flashlight or glow stick to help cars see you and your kids. Watch carefully when crossing the road and crossing alleys, and don’t assume that cars can see you or your children.
- Traveling in groups: Teach your child the buddy system and travel with other children of a similar age with many adults following. Stick to well-lit, familiar areas.
- Check out the goodies: Check your child’s candies for adulteration or allergens and remove them.
- Suit safety: Choose non-toxic face paint instead of masks to avoid impaired vision and make sure costumes are flame retardant and fit properly to prevent tripping.
- Be alert: Leave the cell phones. All eyes should be on your surroundings and looking around for cars. It’s good to have a cell phone in your pocket in case of an emergency.
