Ohio State vs. Texas Men's Basketball

Ohio State upset No. 19 Texas, 80-72, to pick up an emphatic victory and start the 2024-25 season on a high note. Behind 45 percent shooting from the field and 50 percent from three, the Buckeyes outscored their counterpart in the big win. Additionally, this is coach Jake Diebler’s first win as OSU’s head coach.

The Longhorns’ loss marked the program’s second loss in its last 23 season openers.

The Buckeyes were on a roll from the start, shooting 50% from deep in both halves. Five players knocked down at least two 3-pointers, including Mobley Jr.’s four-for-four performance. Bruce Thornton finished with 20 points, five rebounds and five assists.

One of Texas’ kryptons was its inability to hit the long ball as consistently as Ohio State, shooting just 25 percent from deep.

Although they were without a potential starter in Houston transfer guard Tramon Mark, the biggest bright spot for the Longhorns was Tre Johnson, who finished with a game-high 29 points to go along with five rebounds and four assists in his college debut.
