Baton Rouge, La. (First Louisiana) – Congressman Cleo Fields was honored with his past schools at Baton Rouge and the leader of the Democratic House Hakem Jeffris in a symbolic ceremony, welcoming him back to the congress.
“Twenty -eight years ago, I had to face another challenge, the challenge of having an area taken by the voters themselves I served. And yet today I am proud before you get your time back, “Fields said.
Fields lost his congress district because the court dumped him over Gerimander. He is now returning to the recent congress that he has participated in the passage through the legislature. Despite the legal challenging area, Fields remained focused on getting what work it could do in its two -year term.
Surrounded by hundreds of students and supporters at the Center for Activities of South University Clark, Fields is celebrated for their work in the community and a long -standing political career while students share their aspirations for the future.
“Just as Congressman is sworn in to serve, we as students must commit ourselves to serve our schools, our communities, and ultimately our country,” said the student at McKinley High School in McKinley.
Home leader Hakem Jeffrries made the trip to the south to honor the flight in his first trip to Baton Rug. He talks about how some can see the current political climate as a knockdown. He likens the political process of flight on a plane: there will be turbulence to get to your destination. He talks about how the fields will join him in the fight to ensure that black history has not been deleted.
“I just gave up to inform you that with the Kleo Field Management I am confident that we will be able to press, to press for our children, to press for our elderly people. Press for our dreamers. Press for our families. Press for our veterans. Click for working -class people. Press the middle class. Press for the poor. Press for the sick … ”Jeffrese said.
Fields talks about the black men who came before him, who fought for civil rights and be elected in the congress. He said without them, he will not stand at this stage.
“It was their courage to injustice and inequality that led to the foundations for moments like this, reminding us that progress often comes through a victim, the victims of countless others who fight on the right of history and made the way for people like me,” said Fields.
Fields officially took office in January.
