BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – We continue to deal with above normal temperatures. Baton Rouge Metro Airport hit a record high of 89° on Sunday. We will continue with highs in the mid to upper 80s for the foreseeable future. This is about 10-15 degrees above normal.

It’s even worse when you look at the morning lows. Lows in the upper 60s to 70s are about 15-20 degrees above normal. We don’t see a cold front in our 10-day forecast.

We are spraying with a slight chance of rain every day this week. The best chance may come on Tuesday’s election day. Tuesday won’t be a washout, however, as rain coverage remains scattered. Don’t let the rain be the reason you don’t vote. To avoid the threat of rain, it is best to leave in the morning or early afternoon.

We are also still tracking tropical threats to the Gulf of Mexico. Potential Tropical Cyclone #18 is expected to become Rafael. This system is expected to move into the Gulf of Mexico as a hurricane by midweek. Exactly where this system eventually makes landfall and how strong it will be at that point remains very uncertain. We think conditions will not be favorable for tropical development in the Gulf thanks to drier air and strong winds.
