Guadalupe Youth and Family Center Opens Nov. 4 – Fox 34

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – “We took full advantage of this blessing as we did some cleaning,” said Deacon Adrian Jimenez.

A building that needed heavy detailing in July is now ready to serve the next generation of faith.

The Guadalupe Youth and Family Center officially opens on Monday, November 4th. It will feature many different resources for children and youth, including a marriage and family life office, a safe environment office, a library full of books, and much more.

This location will give thousands of young people and families in the 25 counties of the Diocese of Lubbock a place to deal with more intimate matters of faith.

“Bishop Koerver’s vision was to have a safe place for young people to come,” said Deacon Jimenez, “from all over the diocese, all the parishes – a meeting place where they could come and have activities to profess some faith and worship, to have gatherings , faith-based and really get them to experience themselves outside of the classroom.”

Deacon Jimenez is also the director of marriage and family life at the center. He says this space will allow young couples to discuss where they are now and where they want to go in the future.

“It’s going to give us a great safe space to bring couples to do some engagement meetings or try to help couples prepare for their sacrament of marriage,” Jimenez said.

The center will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, with special events on weekends.

The Diocese of Lubbock hopes this youth and family center will bring communities together.

“We want to act boldly,” Jimenez said. “Today’s children, today’s children of this world sometimes get lost in the things of the world and we want to bring them back to Christ, our guide, our shepherd. This will help them build their strong self-belief.”
