Growing Merigold in Kapilvastu – Rising Nepal

By Janu Pandey, Kapilvastu, November 1: Narayan Aryal of Banganga-3 municipality has shifted to commercial cultivation of merigola from paddy cultivation since last three years.

His marigold cultivation has expanded to 5 storeys of land. In this festival season, flowers are used to make garlands.

The main purposes of growing marigolds are peace and marriage.

Aryal said, “The motivation to enter the flower business came after I read the news that flowers were being imported from India.”

He planted 3,000 marigold saplings at a cost of Rs 12 per sapling.

Aryal informs that 3000 garlands are supplied to the market in a week. Its demand is increasing due to insufficient supply.

The gold garland sells for 150 to 200 rupees.
