Greet our characters: Library security officer inspires optimism and brings joy to others – Wibw

Topeka, Kan. (Wibw) – Wilson Ingram carefully monitors the Topeka & Shawnee County County Public Library.

“I love this job. This is a great job. This is a rewarding job. Every day I can communicate with the public and I have great employees and employees I work with and it’s a fun job to have, “Ingram said.

Wilson is a library safety and security officer.

“I do this like every 45 minutes to an hour. I walk with the building and make sure everything is fine. Make sure everyone does what they need to do and make sure everyone is safe and secure. ”

He does his job with a smile on his face.

“I don’t like to see people, you know, and I try to do my best to get them when they are down. I try to sit and have conversations and learn a little about them and tell them a little about myself. And so I try to live it every day. ”

He carries an infectious amount of optimism wherever he goes while taking his work seriously.

“You have to be firm with what you do, but you have to do it with respect. Make sure you respect everyone and all who come through these doors, I want to have good experience here. I want them to have fun well, but I also want to respect the library and its policies. ”

Wilson grew up in Florida, part of a large family.

“It was a fun time and we had some things we had to go through, but we did it and here I am today.”

After high school, Ingram joined the military, serving in Vietnam for Babylift operation.

“We returned 3500 children from Vietnam to the United States. We tuned them to elementary school and did them well and sent them to the orphanages, all over the country, to be adopted by families. ”

Wilson credits these experiences and his mother’s influence about his positive prospects on life.

“My mother has always taught me if you get up every morning and look forward to a happy day, it will be a happy day. I received it for my mother, growing up as a child in Florida, and that’s why I have been in this way, you know, no matter what you go through. You still enjoy life. ”

Ingram’s colleagues in the library admire his attitude and work ethics, noting his phrase …

“I’m super fantastic and they say how you can be super fantastic every day? I say I wake up. When I wake up, I’m super fantastic. Many people did not wake up this morning. So that’s how I live my life and I want to be so happy and I want to make the people around me as long as possible. ”

Wilson also works as a postman in various jobs in Topeka. She is now 71 years old. After the working day, he returns to his wife at the age of 49, reads the newspaper and makes crossword puzzles to keep his mind moving.
