Grave former State Representative killed in shooting in mid -January – WAFB

Baton Rouge, La. (WAFB) – In the long -standing fight against violence with a gun in Baton Rouge, one of the strongest votes is that of former state representative and former council member K. Denise Marcel. Now this match is painfully personal after her grandson was killed in a shooting last Monday, January 20. Marcel tells WAFB that she was with her grandson even an hour before she was killed.

D’Shawn Brown, only 22 years old, shared his birthday with her grandmother K. Denise Marcel. They were so close that his family joked that they were twins. Now the long -time community activist faces the pain that has been fighting for so long. According to the Baton Ruzhi Police Department, D’Asown was shot dead and killed in the McDonald’s parking lot of the airline and a junction.

“He was in my house for three and was dead from four,” Marcel says. “I think many people have participated in it and there are many people in McDonald’s, I get many calls.”

Marcel has spent much of her life over the violence with a gun. Now her grandson’s death leaves her four -year -old without a father.

“I thought of all time that I had walked and spoke against violence with a gun. I was thinking of all time when I went to balloons. I thought of all the prayers that I went to the families on the scenes where they still lie there and pray with the family and hug them as I cried, and thought about it all. And I thought I never thought it would land on my threshold because I did my best to keep my children and grandchildren away from violence with a gun, “Marcel says. “But no one is released. No one is released. I understood that. “

Less than a month in the New Year, East Baton Rouge Parish has already seen nine murders. Marcel says the public must be outraged by the violence in the city and she says weapons should get out of the streets.

“In no case do I say that Deshaown is a saint, but he does not deserve it. And I want the city to cure, I don’t want anyone else to die unnecessarily and it is certainly not in the hands of this, this murder, “says Marcel.

Finding a solution is the least challenge, but Marcel says that the more stringent weapons laws and more responsibility than the pistol owners may be beginning.

BRPD says this is still an ongoing investigation and they have not yet arranged arrests. They encourage anyone with information to contact Brpd or Crimestoppers.
