RENO, Nev. (COLO) – Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance returned to Reno Wednesday, just two weeks before the election.
Vance, a US senator from Ohio, tried to reach out to voters and attacked Vice President Kamala Harris.
“I grew up in a family where times were often tense,” Vance said. “I understand what people are going through and how the broken leadership of Kamala Harris has failed to bring prosperity to the American people.”
Vance targeted Nevada’s working class and labor force.
“We’re going to be the best advocates for Nevada’s tourism industry that you’ve ever seen in the White House,” he said. “And the biggest part of that, of course, is making sure Nevada workers don’t pay taxes on tips.”
The state has the highest concentration of tipped workers in the country and an average of 25 waiters and waitresses per 1,000 jobs.
“This will allow many Nevadans to keep more of their hard-earned money.” By the way, I think about 65% of tipped workers in Nevada are mothers,” he added.
“I don’t think it’s a no-brainer for the economy or people in general, but I think it’s a good one,” said one Washoe County voter.
Vance reiterated the campaign’s position on addressing Nevada’s affordable housing crisis.
“I think especially in the state of Nevada, we have a lot of federal land. Not used for a national park. It’s not being used for anything, why don’t we build some homes on this land and give American citizens a place to live in their own country.”
Some supporters in attendance voiced their support for Trump’s plan for the economy.
“Everything is so expensive because of the economy. You go to the grocery store, pay $80 and put it in two bags,” said a supporter. “Everything is so expensive that you can’t afford a home. There are a lot of homeless people, a lot of homeless vets who can’t afford housing.
The Republican vice presidential nominee explained the Trump-Vance campaign’s plans to lower energy costs, along with immigration and putting American homebuyers first.
“Donald Trump will follow him into the White House to make the American dream of home ownership more affordable again,” Vance said. “American Homes for the American People. Not for illegal aliens who don’t deserve to be in the country in the first place.
The election is 13 days away and candidates are urging people to vote at the polls. Early voting ends on November 1st, and the election is scheduled for November 5th.
