GLENDALE, AZ (AZ Family) — The Glendale Police Department is praising the quick thinking of a 14-year-old girl when a Glendale man tried to lure her in, officials said Wednesday.
Police said she was walking home from school when Isaiah Navarro, 37, approached her in a red car and tried to talk to her on 57th Avenue north of Olive Avenue on Oct. 16.
She knew she shouldn’t talk to strangers or get into their cars.
Navarro then asked the girl for her phone number, so she put her mother’s phone number in his phone, police said. She then got away safely.
Investigators said Navarro then called the number, thinking it would be the girl, but the mother picked up.
She later called police and Glendale detectives continued the conversation, which became more graphic as he described and asked about specific sexual acts regardless of the victim’s age, investigators said.
Navarro repeatedly asked to meet, calling up to 30 times, so detectives picked a place and time, investigators said.
When he showed up, he was arrested.
Navarro was booked into jail on charges of soliciting a minor for sexual exploitation and attempting to engage in sexual conduct with a minor. His bond was set at $250,000.
Police said any other victims are encouraged to call the department at (623) 930-3000.
