Gilcrease Nature Sanctuary Brace for Bird Flu outburst in Las Vegas – Fox 5 Las Vegas

Las Vegas, Nev. (FOX5) – As we continue to observe cases of bird flu in Nevada, the sanctuary of the valley tells Fox5 that all its birds can be wiped if the virus paves its way to Clark County.

Fox5 went to the Nature Gilcrease sanctuary, where we realized they were the ducks who live their best life. However, their lives are online as the dangers of bird flu.

“Most likely, if one of our ducks and geese, they all probably have to be downloaded just to stop this risk,” says Jennifer Langford, CEO of the Gilcrease Nature sanctuary.

This risk is very real, according to Langford.

Langford tells FOX5, their USDA doctor told her it was not a matter of “whether” bird flu was spreading to Nevada, but a matter of “when”.

That is why Langford, with the help of an eagle scout, built huts.

The ducks usually enter their enclosure at night, but if the bird flu hits Clark County, all the ducks would be locked in their own rooms indefinitely.

“The thing in bird flu is very contagious, so it will not only be one, it will get it, it will be all of them,” Langford said.

Washing boots is also vital after visiting every enclosure. This is because the sanctuary is wide open and all it will take is a wild bird to fly and release its infected stools.

“It can be distributed in the stool, the mucus of the saliva, but the greatest thing is the stools from Wild Bird,” Langford said.

Not only ducks are a risk, but all the birds in the sanctuary ranging from the ostrich to parrots and other exotic birds.
