Gilbert H. Norris, 95, formerly from Rock, Illinois Island, died on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at the fountain support facility, Betendorf, IA. Private intervention, with a million greetings, was held at the National Cemetery Rock Island, Arsenal Island, Rock Island, Illinois.

Gilbert was born on May 13, 1929 in Manchester, New Hampshire. He married Geraldine M. Smith, June 16, 1951 in Marion, IA. He graduated from the State University of Iowa, Ames, IA. He was proud to serve in the maritime infantry of the United States during the Korea War.

He spends the bigger part of his career by working for the city of Rock Island as a city health inspector. After retirement, Gill and Gerry toured the world. He enjoyed diving, photography and fossil collection. He is the co -founder of the Middle American Paleontological Society (MAPS). He was a member of Hilltop toastmaster Club, where he volunteered for 20 years. He won many awards from the ToastMasters Club and was most proud of the achievements achieved, working with the prisoners in the East Molin correctional center. Gill was an active member of the United Church of Christ of Hope.

Gill was an avid animal lover, especially dogs. He liked to spend time with his family. The last few years of his life have been spent in the fountains in Betendorf, IA. Our family would like to thank all the staff for the great care he provided to Dad, as well as to the staff of the Hospice “St. Croas” and Pastor Santina Bornik, Nadezhda the United Church of Christ.

The survivors include his children Alan Norris (Rock Island, Illinois), Bruce (Shelly) Norris (Rock Island, Illinois), Ann (Thomas) Price; Grandsons Sarah Stevens, Zahari (Kim) Norris, Eric Norris, Claire Price. Big grandchildren Olivia and Sofia Stevens, analysis and Natalie Norris – the angels of the great dad.

He was preceded by death by his wife Geraldine, sister Helen and his parents.
