Manor Oktoberfest, a German-American restaurant and longtime tenant of The Shops at Atlas Park in Glendale, has officially closed its doors, marking the end of an 18-year era at the outdoor mall.
Known for its German-inspired menu and beer, Manor Oktoberfest was among the mall’s original establishments and has the distinction of being one of the longest-standing businesses.
Founded by Mark Gallagher, Manor Oktoberfest opened its Atlas Park location in 2006, quickly establishing itself as a place for hearty German-American fare. The wide range of offerings, including German craft beers, bratwurst and authentic potato salad, have made it a favorite among locals and visitors alike. The Glendale location also serves as a popular meeting place for funeral luncheons, taking advantage of its proximity to nearby cemeteries.
This closure comes at a difficult time for The Shops at Atlas Park, where numerous businesses have closed in recent years. Despite its attractive layout and country-style charm, the mall has struggled with tenant turnover. Former retail stores and eateries such as The Fair and Shiro of Japan have left empty storefronts, raising concerns among community members about the mall’s future.
The remaining tenants, however, continue to attract visitors, including Regal Cinemas, TJ Maxx and Home Goods, which draw heavily into the community. There are still dining options, but the loss of Manor Oktoberfest has left a void, especially for patrons who frequented the restaurant for its warm Bavarian atmosphere and unique menu.
The Manor Oktoberfest legacy in Queens will live on at its Forest Hills location at 73-11 Yellowstone Blvd. The more formal location includes a popular bar, a room for private parties and an expanded menu of German favorites.
