A gas station clerk shot a man she saw shoplifting from the Mobil gas station at 500 Akron Drive.
The incident happened around 6:50 a.m. on Tuesday.
The employee, Katherine Harris, 61, told police she saw a man shoplifting. She said she followed the man out of the store, confronted him, then shot him.
The man, Alvis Viotis Hackney, 36, of East Clemonsville Road, left after the shooting.
Police examined the scene and found Hackney, who had a gunshot wound that was not believed to be life-threatening.
Hackney was charged with felony theft. He chose not to press charges against Harris in the shooting.
Shortly after the shooting, police said they responded to a reported armed robbery in the 2700 block of University Parkway.
After an investigation, they concluded that the suspect approached the company’s register, demanded money and then left.
No injuries were reported and the suspect has not been located.
The armed robbery is not connected to the shooting on Akron Drive, according to police.
