Garland Sims 1948-2025 – Youngstown Vindicator

Youngstown – Mr. Garland Sims, 76 -year -old, left this life, Sunday, January 26, 2025, at home.

G -N Sims, known for GA GA, was born on May 5, 1948 in Youngstown, son of James Coffield and Ada Sims.

He is a graduate of 1967 at South High School. After graduation, Garland joined the US Maritime Corps and served during the Vietnam era.

After returning from the military, he has been working for over 30 years as a service liner for Ameritech, retiring in early 2000s.

He was a member of Buckeye Elks Ibpoe by W. Garland was known for taking pictures throughout the city and various events, especially Jazz in the Park. He loved photography, cycling, computers, reading and walking the flea market. Family and friends were very important to Garland. You often see him hanging with his friends at McDonald’s on Fifth Avenue. If there was a family event, you can bet that it will be there, a camera in your hand to capture the moments.

He leaves to mourn his passage and celebrate his life and heritage his daughters, Maxine D. Sims and Christine M. Sims, both by Columbus; granddaughter, Zuri N. Sims of Columbus; Brothers and sisters, Bruce Butch (Dorothy) Sims of Youngstown, Willie Thomas of Mississippi, Jeffrey Kofield and Duway Reyne Reynolds and Daton, Isaac Glen Coffold of Indiana and Denise Reynolds-Hait of Michigan; Two aunts, Lela Graham and Merdis “Jean” (Walter) Shepherd and the two from Dayton; Two uncle, John (Bernis) Kofield from Texas and Garland Sims (his namesake) from Youngstown; And many family and friends.

He was preceded by death by his father James Coffield; mother, hell merchant; Sister, Debra Jones Moore; Both grandparents, George Dewey and Florence Sims.

The visit will be from 10 o’clock to noon on Friday, February 7, 2025, at Le Black, Phillips & Holden.

A holiday of life will follow at noon.
