Workers and members of the Unite Union gathered outside the campus of Scottish events in Glasgow to insist the United Kingdom government to do more to save the oil refinery.
The protesters got out wet and windy weather as you chanted “You said that our refinery is your top priority” and “keep a gragemut to work.”
Petroineos announced last year that over 400 jobs would be lost as the last oil refinery in Scotland closed this year.
The governments of Scotland and the United Kingdom have carried out £ 100 million in the Falkirk and Grangemouth growth deal to support jobs and skills in the area, together with a report – called Project Willow – to view the future of the site.
Scotland’s first Minister John Sweey also announced another 25 million British pounds to provide a “fair transition” in the area.
But the unions accused both governments of not doing enough to save the plant while Scottish labor leader Anas Sarvar described the answer as “not good enough.”
Sharon Graham, Secretary -General of the Unite Union, told the PA information data agency that Grangemut can still be saved.
She said: “We use every opportunity that we can tell the UK government, the Scottish government, and all politicians that they did not have a long time to save gragemut.
“Let us be really clear, Gongemut can be saved, but today I tell all politicians if they do not, then he will never be forgotten and will never be forgiven.
“What they need to do is go around the table and discuss how they will deal with what is happening in Grangemut.”
G -ja Graham said that Unite presented the government and the oil plan for turning the refinery into a sustainable fuel center for aviation.
She said the government should stop “posing” and instead show the “vision” and the “courage” necessary to stop the plant from closing.
“Both governments have to take their fingers out of their ears,” said G -Graham.
Speaking during the demonstration, the Secretary -General of Unite warned that oil and gas workers in the UK could not become “new coal miners”.
The acting secretary of the Scottish energy secretary, Jillian Martin, said: “The Scottish government has already shown that we are on the side of Grangemut and its workforce. We do everything we can within our strength and resources. We agree with the union union – we do not want to see these jobs or skills lost by the grand or Scotland.
“That is why this week the first minister announced an additional 25 million pounds, leading to the total number we have done or already invested in Grangemut to £ 87 million.
“We are all aware that the United Kingdom government must do at least the same and provide a fairly large sum to avoid significant economic disturbances in Central Scotland and to protect and encourage the future interests of Scotland – and of Gongemut.
“We also need the United Kingdom Government to speed up ACORN and Scottish cluster of carbon capture project of a sustainable future for the wider industrial cluster. “
The United Kingdom government turned to comment.
