Gamecocks Play another heartfelt, 72-68, to No. 19/23 Ole Miss – Fox Carolina

Columbia, SC (AP) -Malik Dia hit a 3-point with just over two minutes, which led Mississippi forward to stay and end with 18 points as the 19th ranked Ole Miss South Carolina 72-68 on Wednesday night.

The rebels (19-6, 8-4 Southeast Conference) wasted a 12-point lead in the second half before Dia returned.

Dia had 12 of his points in the last six minutes, including a three-point game, which moved Mississippi back from the front after South Carolina led 58-57.

South Carolina had the last chance of moving in front of the last minute, but Colin Murray Boils broke the ball into driving and Dre Davis raised him for Ole Miss.

It was the latest Heartbreaker for Gamecocks (10-14, 0-11), which lost 11 straight games to start SEC PLAY.

Murray-Boil led South Carolina with 20 points.

Jaman Brekfield had 14 points and Davis 12 for Ole Miss, who won three of his last four games.

Dia, playing with four fouls, had a three-point game to put the rebels in front, 60-58, with 6:24 to play after South Carolina led.

Ole Miss came in ninth place in fake shooting, but made 14 out of 17 against South Carolina.

Key statistics

  • The rebels opened a 10-point lead thanks to 65.2% shooting of the opening 20 minutes (15-from-23 FGS, 6-from-9 3FG). Carolina increased the defense in the second half, returning to the game as it kept Ole Miss to only 31.3% (10-on-32) in the last 20 minutes.

Remarkable

  • Sophomore’s striker Colin Murray Boils led the team again in points with the 20s of the game. It was his leading team seventh 20-point game for the season. He added six rebounds, three assists, three blocks and theft.
  • The graduate Nick Pringle had 12 points, his first double -digit match since he scored 12 against No. 2/2 Ruds at home on January 11th.
  • Senior Transfer Jamarius Thomas was also in double numbers for Carolina with 11 points. He had a difficult daily shooting (3-from-13 FG), but hit a pair of decisive 3s in the second half to return Gamecocks to the game.
  • Carolina falls to 1-11 this season when she scores 69 points or less.
  • Gamecocks have lost six SEC matches (five of them in the top-20 teams) with a combined 20 points, 3.3 points average margin of defeat in these six league races.

Forward

Carolina goes on the road on Saturday to face her 12th opponent of the top-25 (fourth top five) of the season with a trip to Gainsville to face 3/3 Florida (21-3, 8- 3 sec). The advice was set for 8:30 pm (ET) with Roy Philpott (PXP) and JON SUNDVOLD (analyzer) at the invitation to broadcast the SEC network.
