Exclusive: Scottish author Irvine Welsh, best known for writing the original 1993 Trainspotting The novel, partnered with screenwriter Dean Cavanna, to write a biography based on the life of the notorious Ibiza hotelier Tony Pike.
Pike, who died of cancer in 2019, won fame in the early 1980s after creating a Pikes hotel in Ibiza. The hotel, which occupied a former country house, quickly became a hedonistic refuge for celebrities and musicians. Frequent visitors included Freddie Mercury, Princess Margaret and George Michael, who filmed Wham’s Club Tropicana music video! Pike also has a Cameo in the video. Pike’s appetite for party life once known a boy George to call him “Hugh Hefner of Ibiza”, who often tried to play.
