Funds are waiting for Lubbock Downtown Park Construction to start this year – KCBD

Lubbock, Texas (KCBD) – Although people who are walking or driving may not be able to see it, they still can’t see it, raising funds claiming to make progress in the Lubbock Park in the city center.

The organizers hope when more money comes, they will be able to start construction on the project later this year.

It has been about three and a half years since the Municipal Council approved the Lubbock Downtown Park in the corner of Broadway and Avenue L. Then in 2022 the city destroyed the former LP & L building on the block. The property is still covered with dirt and grass, as private fundraising efforts continue.

“I promise you, there are many meetings. There is a lot of effort into this and there are quite a number of people who are engaged in this process, “said Brad Moran’s fund chairman.

Moran says the project is quite significant and the total price proves this. The price of $ 12.4 million will pay for open space for lawn, scene, splashes, bathroom, pet area, public angle of art and a place to feed trucks.

“Unlike any park we have in Lubbock and will be very unique and you just have to think about it as a center for events without a building on it,” Moran said.

So far, $ 6.7 million has been raised for the park. The total cost of $ 12 million includes a donation and some operational funds to get started. So Moran says the project is now 73 percent of the way to start construction.

“This is a privately funded park. This is not something that the city finances, and so we rely on donations, rely on people who want to see this thing to move forward, “he said.

Moran hopes that construction will start later this year, making the way for more revival projects in the city center.

“This is the park, this is the center. This is the catalyst who will start and continue in this city center, “he said. “This will be a park that, as it will be so unique, will invite people from all over the city, not just people living in the city center or work in the city center.”

Moran believes that the Broadway market, which will open exactly on the other side of the street, is an example of what already works.

“This is a direct response from the park that is there. So, we love it from the point of view of the park and the people who develop it are happy because they will be a symbiotic relationship, “he said.

Moran says the Broadway market has donated office space for the center of Lubbock Park, the non -profit purpose that will manage and maintain the park.
