Non-league Tamworth will face Burton in the second round of the FA Cup after their stunning victory over League One side Huddersfield. Tamworth pulled off a shock victory during the televised first round match when Tom Tonks’ long throw led to an own goal by goalkeeper Chris Maxwell.
In another impressive achievement, seventh-placed Kettering edged out Northampton, also in League One, to earn them a home game against League Two’s Doncaster Rovers.
The competition’s biggest outsiders Gainsborough, the bottom-placed remaining club, prepare for a local clash with Harrogate Town following the latter’s triumph over Wrexham last Sunday.
Gainsborough manager Russ Wilcox expressed his enthusiasm to the BBC: “I think when you’ve waited 72 years to get into the second round you take it all in, but it’s not too far for the fans to travel.
“The fans were amazing yesterday, they stuck with us, so it’s a great draw. Hopefully we can reward them again and go in with the big boys.”
Other non-league clubs, such as Oldham and Dagenham, were given away games against Leyton Orient and AFC Wimbledon respectively, while Harborough will mark a historic moment with their first game of the second round, facing Reading away.
Vanarama National League side Brackley Town will challenge League One side Stockport County away from home, while Solihull Moors look forward to hosting League Two side Bromley at home.
Wealdstone aim to continue turning heads by welcoming League One heavyweights Wycombe Wanderers for another potential giant-killing act. Meanwhile, Birmingham City faced Blackpool, who had won the trophy in 1953.
The final first round match between Chesham and Lincoln is set for Monday night, with Crawley set to face the winners. The second round matches are scheduled to take place from November 29 to December 2.
