By the early 1980s, the Wilmington Center had lost many of its retail stores. As a result, it was in the early stages of transformation.
Part of the transformation meant ejection of adult stores.
According to an article on January 26, 1984, Wilmington Morning Star, a Wilmington resident bought Berger’s 118 Market St. And she plans to renovate her with small shops and a residence upstairs. As a result, the Alley Adult Book Store lease will not be renewed.
Leave only one adult bookstore in the city center.
Efforts to revive the center of the center (now Wilmington Downtown Inc) have noted that this is the kind of project that likes to see that it happened to give the area a new life. In addition to opening an interior design store in the building, the new owner plans to live on the first two floors.
“The more people we can live in the city center, the better our efforts will be due to their presence,” says Mary Gore, CEO of Dare.
By 1984, in the city center it had already seen some success thanks to Riverwalk and commercial areas, such as The Cotton Exchange and Chandler’s Wharf.
As for 118 Market St., the building is already home to Ibiza nightclub.
