BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Free reading, English and Spanish lessons for adults are available in the Birmingham area.
The church of St. Mark CME hosts the community classes in partnership with Birmingham Jumpstart. They are held every Friday from noon to 2pm at Titusville Church. No registration required.
The 14-week program, which began Oct. 4, targets adults in the community who need help with their reading and communication skills.

The Rev. Charles B. Williams Jr. with the Church of St. Mark CME talked about how important it is for community members to have access to these classes.
“The big picture is where we can serve and bridge the gap for those people who don’t have adequate reading skills. To help them overcome these obstacles,” said Rev. Williams. “We also want to facilitate the accrual of our Hispanic population […] and feel more comfortable in the community.”
