Miami (WSVN)-a public police officer at Miami-Dad schools was sentenced on Friday to 30 years in prison and a 20-year probationary period for attempting to kill his ex-boyfriend, a police officer in Miami-Dad outside the Hyalea House of his family.

Jesenia Sanchez was sentenced to shooting Damian Colon in the head on November 5, 2022.

In court on Friday, she pleaded guilty to accusations of first -degree murder attempt with deadly weapons and lurking.

Damian’s brother, David Colon, did not say words when he turned to the defendant.

“Let you suffer equally every day of your life. We rely on you, ”he said. “You are a terrible human being. I hope you suffer from the things you have caused every day of your life. “

David did not contain his emotions, at one point he struggled to hold tears.

“I want to tell you: You have destroyed a family. You have destroyed someone full of life full of plans, with a bright future. You did this, ”he said.

Damian, a 17-year-old veteran of the department, was out of duty at the time and survived the attack after undergoing surgery.

After the court postponed, he was applauded outside the courtroom.

“Justice is serviced and I think she received the credit. She had to get more, but I’ll take what she received, “he said.

According to investigators, Sanchez used a tracking application to find a colon at his family residence near the West 79th Street and the 13th Avenue.

She encountered him on the alley and shot him before escaping the stage.

The surveillance frames filmed her car, hitting another car as she was passing.

“Where did the car go?” A witness is heard, who says in security footage.

“I have no idea,” said a second witness.

“I don’t want this to anyone,” Damian said.

Sanchez will spend at least 30 years in a state prison, followed by a 30 -year probationary period after his guilty recognition.

“We have justice today. Today we close our heads, a head in a book you opened, “David said in court. “You have given us justice by pleading guilty to the crimes you have committed.”

The Miami-Dad State Prosecutor Catherine Fernandez Rundell issued the following statement after the sentence on Friday:

No one is immunized against terror and the horror of domestic violence. The shooting of former police officer Jessenia Sanchez of his ex -boyfriend, another police officer, unfortunately proves this point. Her violent act shows the pure explosion of aggression inherent in any incident of domestic violence. Sanchez’s 30-year sentence cannot recover the physical damage he inflicted while trying to kill the man she once claimed to have loved. Unfortunately, these marks will continue forever. I applauded the work of all the auxiliary state lawyers who vigorously worked to bring this case to a conclusion and I helped our victims close the book about this painful and horrible incident.

It was a difficult and long recovery for Damian, but he said the support of his brothers and sisters in Blue and his family helped him a lot.

“I feel blessed. Thank goodness to them, I got this difficult situation, “he said. “Thank God for my family, for all who are here for me. It was difficult, but without them I probably would never have gone through it. “

Earlier this month, Damian withdrew from the Sheriff’s office in Miami-Dad. He said Sanchez had ended his career, something he would be glad to do yet.
