Las Vegas, Nev. (FOX5) – A former Las Vegas car dealership employee has been accused of stealing over $ 1.6 million through gift cards.
The Fox5 received the arrest report for Mark Olson. He faces a fee for money laundering and theft over $ 100,000.
Police said they had been notified by Findlay Kia Automotive on December 29, 2023 for assignment. The report says Olson has stolen $ 1.7 million for several years through an electronic gift card program.
Olson was hired in 2014 as an internet director. He was promoted to sales manager in 2018. In 2021, he was promoted to the General Sales Manager.
Findlay told police that Olson was removed from work in November 2023 as he failed to take a drug test. The next month, he was fired for fraud -linked criminal activity, including vehicle sales.
As Olson runs marketing, Findlay held a meeting to discuss how to move forward. They have found “basic billing costs” that are paid to urban science every month. The costs were unknown because Olson would handle the invoicing.
Findlay met with Urban Science and learned that gift cards are being provided to customers, the arrest report said.
Through a further investigation, Las Vegas police learned that gift cards were sent to Olson. Urban sciences said there are 459 different email addresses used to send gift cards. They will range from $ 15 to $ 500.
Police have learned that Olson had 6 PayPal accounts. When Findlay completed a full court accounting audit, they learned that 3,350 gift cards of $ 500 were bought for a total of $ 1675,000.
When police interviewed a suspect, he said he was paying “bonuses” to other people when asked about gift cards. He then asked for a lawyer.
According to Las Vegas Justice Justic Records, Olson has published Bond and has a state of check on February 20 at 8:30 am.
Fox5 asked for a statement from Findlay Automotive Group. Tyler Corder, CFO, said the group had addressed the problem as soon as it was identified and had not been affected or used during the alleged scheme.
