On Friday, Jesenia Sanchez pleaded guilty to a first -degree attempt at Damian Colon’s shooting from Damian.
As part of the legal basis, Sanchez was sentenced to 30 years in prison by a maximum of 25 years. It must undergo 30 years of probation after its release and should stay away from the colon.
According to prosecutors, Sanchez used an application to lurk the colon. In early November, she was reported that she had gone to his Hyalea home when he was out of duty. Sanchez was arrested the previous year for domestic violence. At that time, she was a police officer in Miami-Dad and resigned in September 2021 instead of termination, according to the school neighborhood.
Miami-Dad State Prosecutor Catherine Fernandez Rundell issued a statement after a sentence on Friday. In it, she said that no one was immunized against the “horror” of domestic violence, not even law enforcement officers.
“Her violent act shows the pure explosion of aggression inherent in every incident of domestic violence. Sanchez’s 30-year sentence cannot recover the physical damage she has inflicted while trying to kill the man she once loved. Unfortunately, these signs will continue forever,” she says.
Courtroom
Colon, who retired from the Sheriff’s office in Miami-Dad last week, was in the courtroom when Sanchez accepted the legal basis agreement with family and friends. He said that while justice may have been served, she destroyed his life and that of his family.
“I think justice is being served,” he said. “She got what she deserved and had to get more, but I’ll take what she received.”
Before a full courtroom filled with family, friends and colleagues, Colon’s brother, MDSO SGT. David Colon, he said in court and full of anger to turn to the woman who almost took his brother’s life.
“I want to tell you that you have destroyed our family. You have destroyed someone full of life, [and] Full of plans with a bright future. You did this, ”he said.
“I hope you don’t have peace one day,” David Colon continued. “I hope you suffer every day for the rest of your life and God make you live a very long life so you can suffer for what you have done.”
