WASHINGTON (AP) — Florida is filing a lawsuit to force the Justice Department to stop blocking the state’s investigation into the second assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody filed a lawsuit Wednesday against Attorney General Merrick Garland after federal officials told Florida to temporarily suspend its own investigation pending a federal investigation into the Sept. 15 incident at Trump’s Florida golf course. Justice Department officials cited a federal law that says an assassination attempt on a political candidate must be investigated by the FBI and that state jurisdiction ends if the federal government intervenes.
