Governor Ron Roanis boasted the degree of graduation in Florida in early January, which reached 89.7% in 2024, which was a slight increase in the 2023 course at 88%.
But at the same time, the degree of completion of Leon County dropped from 86.1% in 2023 to 85.1% in 2024.
“The students in this last cohort were freshmen in 2020-21, so many of them were not physically at school when they started high school,” Chief Rocky Hannah told Democrat Talahasi.
In May, just before the 2024 class start ceremonies were held, hundreds of students in the district were at risk of not receiving their diplomas.
Last year, 341 adults in the district were at risk of not completing, 108 of them were enrolled in Godby. Hannah said that students have a number of opportunities to restore their status and go through the stage with Saturday school, summer school and recovering loans after school.
To Graduate, Students Are Required to Complete 24 Course Credits, Or 18 Credits for the Accel Diploma, Maintain A 2.0 Unweight Cumulative Grade Point Average, and Pass theth ouors exam, or at They get a comparable result of acceptable college entrance exams.
Previously, Hannah swore that the percentages for 2024 would rise after the rates in 2023 show a sharp contrast from the pre -pandmic percentage of 94%. But they didn’t.
“I expect these numbers to increase this year,” Hannah said. “We want better and I have complete faith and confidence that we will return to 90% or greater in the coming years.”
The area will continue to provide Saturday and reimbursement after school to the elderly looking for the opportunity to return to the course.
School graduation odds
Here is a breakdown of the degree of completion based on school sites:

- Sail High School has the second highest percentage of 95.5%.
- The Lincoln High School has a grade of 90.3%.
- Rickards High School has a grade of 84.8%.
- Leon High School has a grade of 84.7%.

Initiatives to change
Students of origin with low incomes and black students had some of the lowest percentages in the whole area. Students who meet the free or reduced lunch requirements had a degree of completion of 71.4%.
Black students in the district had a general degree of completion of 75.9%, a lower than previous years, signaling a model, as less students in black end each year.
From 2019 to 2021, the completion rate increased among black students from 86.9% to 91.2%. In 2022, the percentage fell to 78%.
Hannah said that for most students, crossing courses is not the problem that keeps them from graduation.
“Most of these children have test deficits,” Hannah said, explaining that these students are not strong test participants, although they have earned grades in the classes.
Teresa Dennis, a district graduation coach, said test students were fighting the most 10th grade English -language art exam.
Dennis said the prospects for the degree of graduation 2025 seem positive, as students are preparing for exams in smaller groups and in English classes, a new practice introduced this school year.
“Each school site provides preparation for tests during the school day and/ or after school or in a particular Saturday school; In addition to the tests for the ACT, SAT and/ or CLT study day, to provide access to coherent tests for adolescents and the elderly, “Dennis told the proposals of the student support area.
The school board member Marcus Nicholas recently asked the district staff to submit data on the forecast trends for completion more frequently during the year.
“I wanted to do this more than a regularly planned event where we can talk about the percentage of graduation,” Nicolas said during a school council review meeting on Monday.
“I want to start and look at a three-year trend of our school graduation rates and demographically. I think continuing these conversations will better inform what we are doing and what we finance.”
