There’s no place like home, and today (October 29) Flatland Cavalry take listeners there with their latest single ‘Lubbock’.
While the Texas hometown band’s tune is nothing new to longtime fans — they started teasing the track years ago — it’s now officially ours.
“5 years ago we released an acoustic YouTube video celebrating the Texas Tech basketball team’s success in the NCAA Championship Game,” the band recently shared on social media in preparation for the song’s official release. “Since that day you all have been blowing up our comments asking for the song to be released. Earlier this year we returned to our home turf [Amusement Park Recording Studio] and I put that song on tape.”
“Take me home where the air is dry” frontman Cleto Cordero sings over a subdued arrangement of swelling keys and distant rhythms. “And the cotton and the winter wheat grow up to my knees / I tell you, my friend, I’ve never seen a more beautiful sky at sunset / A little windy, but I don’t mind / The light breeze through my hair suits me very well / And yes I must see them how the stars burning in the night / I’m feeling desperate from the road / Time to get home / Nothing like a little Lubbock to get me pumped.”
The house anthem is likely to appear on the band’s upcoming album, Plain foreveralong with their recently released ‘Three Car Garage’.
The upcoming collection, which arrives on November 8, is a celebration of the band’s last decade together. The project will consist of selected fan favorites from past albums, making tracks from Come May, Humble Folks, Homeland Insecurity, Welcome To Countryland, Songs To Keep You Top, and their latest release, wandering star, all fair game.
The compilation will also feature four new songs, alternate versions of previously released tracks, and commentary from the band as they reflect on their now-illustrious career and look forward to the decades ahead.
